Tips before travelling to Indonesia

Don't underestimate Indonesia’s size
Airline Credit Card issue
If you go on a road trip from one end of Indonesia’s largest island Sumatra to the other end it will take you roughly 50 hours. Sumatra doesn't even take up 25 percent of Indonesia’s land mass but the trip is longer than a drive from Los Angeles to New York. This is because of the mountainous terrain and poor road conditions. Due to this reason, all Indonesia’s islands are connected with flights which wre cheap and quicker than road travel. Indonesia’s main carrier Garuda Indonesia which is regarded as one of the world’s best airlines has flights as low as 20USD depending on where you are flying.
Since flights are the most affordable transport mode it's convenient to book on the airline website. Sometimes there could be an issue with foreign credit cards. If you fall victim to this problem just try a different airline, try booking through your smartphone or via a booking site like Expedia.
Look beyond Bali
Religion
Bali is an awesome destination but it's just a fraction of Indonesia. Visiting only Bali while in Indonesia would be like visiting only Sydney when in Australia. Don't miss out! Head east of Bali to Lombok to visit Indonesia’s second tallest volcano and then just off Bali!s coast is the spectacular Holi islands. Visit the culturally blessed Yogyakarta studded with many gorgeous temples. The possibilities are endless so just pick a place and go, you won't be dissapointed when in Indonesia.
Indonesia houses the world’s biggest Muslim population. Majority of them are forward-thinking but steer away from visiting mosques and other religious places. Depending on where you are staying be prepared to hear the call of prayer five times a day.
Don't be fooled by the currency
Unpredictable Weather
The currency with one of the lowest values is the Indonesian Rupiah. One USD is equivalent to 13,000 Rupiah. Watch out for an added 0 in your bill and pay attention while paying with your credit card as the card reader might deduct 2,000,000 rather than 200,000 Rupiah (150 instead of 15 Dollars) if your attention is elsewhere.
Don't let the weather prevent you from visiting this amazing country. Indonesia experiences the affect all four elements, fire, air, water and earth. The country faces earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, torrential downpours and storms. It's nothing to fret about though!
Diverse Language
One of the world’s best cuisines
Although Bahasa is the national language of Indonesia , the language used throughout education and media and is spoken widely, the country is native to 700 indigenous languages. But don't worry majority of locals in the tourist areas speak English.
Indonesian cuisine is flavorful and aromatic and the best way to taste the authentic flavors are by eating street food. The meals are affordable and taste better than their expensive restaurant counterparts.
